We found tardigrades!!

Last Friday Room 12 went on a tardigrade hunt.

We found one! Have a look at this video of a tardigrade through a microscope (it is very hard to take a good video down a microscope) can you see it wiggling around?

So how did we find a tardigrade...?

We collected moss and lichen in a petri dish, added water and left it for 24 hours.

Then we poured away the extra water and squeezed the rest of the water out of the moss and lichen.

Next we took droplets of the water and put them on a clean petri dish and looked at them under the microscope

We were really excited to find a tardigrade wiggling around, we also found a tiny snail that we hadn't been able to see on the petri dish.

Unfortunately our microscope isn't powerful enough to be able to see it really well..so now we are wondering how to get ourselves a better microscope...any ideas anyone?
