Pūtaiao - Heat conductors and insulation

This week with Ruthie we investigated materials that conduct heat and materials that are good for insulation.

We discussed what these words mean and examples that we find in real life of heat conduction and insulation.

Then we did our investigation, we used a hot water bottle and a thermometer to time how quickly different materials took to heat up.

We realised that our investigation had some problems because the different materials weren't all the same thickness and we wondered what difference that would make.

We also found that some of our results seem to be 'outliers', they didn't make any sense so we discussed how we could make our investigation fairer next time.
