'May the force be with you' - House of Science

This week in pūtaiao (science) we have been learning about forces.

'Forces are in play all around us. Things hanging, sitting, balancing, moving and spinning are all using some kind of force'

We looked at :

Pushing

Pulling

Gravity

Friction

We had a tug of war to think about pulling and having balanced force

We made balancing clowns to find the centre of gravity and balancing points

We then looked at friction and used a friction bottle and force measure to test how many Newtons it took to pull a bottle with different levels of friction.

We think like scientists by gathering and interpreting data. We record our findings so we can discuss them.

Finally we conducted an investigation into gravity and friction and designed an  experiment to show the effect of forces on movement.

Thank you House of Science Waikato for another fantastic kit!!
