Possum and Rat Trapping - Enviro Agents of Tui Hub
As Enviro agents we have ventured out to show pest trapping professionals our nature trail.
There are around 30 million possums in New Zealand. The possums life in New Zealand began when they were introduced for the fur trade in 1837 from Australia. They are asleep during the day and awake at night, they love nutella and are attracted to a cinnamon flavoured lures which are toxin-free.
There are three types of traps we could use on our nature trail including; the tracker trap, the bite card and the box trap. We decided to hammer chew cards on trees near Putikitiki which were then covered in orange possum guts as a way of attracting any pests that could be around. We will check these bite cards later to see what kind of pests are biting.
