This week in Room 12 we have been learning about forensic science. This is the science used to investigate crimes.
We got the 'House of Science' forensic science kit and learnt :
- How to take finger prints and look at the patterns
- How to look at fabric under a digital microscope to see whether it is man made or natural
- How to test whether a powder is soluble and acid or alkaline
- How to analyse handwriting
Testing acidity of a powder
Investigating fingerprints
Looking closely at hair samples and fabrics
Next we had to solve a crime - we were given an evidence bag with fingerprints, writing sample, some unidentified powder and some fabric that had been left at the scene of the crime.
We had four suspects and we had to check all the evidence to see which matched which. Only one suspect matched perfectly - we all agreed who we thought committed the crime and we were right! We are detectives in the making!!!
Reading the police file
Matching fingerprints
Analysing the fabric left at the scene
Finger print analysis
Analysing the hand writing sample
It is really cool to see that you are doing science in room 12 It is an amazing subject that you all looked like you were enjoying it
